El Hogar Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit foundation that was set up more than fourteen years ago as the very first animal welfare sanctuary in Spain. We keep our basic pillars intact with the aim of achieving a fairer and healthier society for all animals. These pillars are built upon the basis of defending animal rights, promoting veganism, and supporting all those that in one way or another, are rejected or mistreated in our society, both animals and humans alike. El Hogar began its journey in Madrid in 2004, and in 2007 was registered as an association. Our mission was to raise awareness on issues such as abandonment and animal abuse. Our activism soon evolved towards anti-speciesism, and to providing help to needy animals regardless of their species. Bfore long, a new and pioneering project began with the aim of offering a future to oppressed, condemned, and forgotten animals, many of them farmed for consumption. This new project created the necesity to find an appropriate piece of piece of land, with the adequate facilities, a place where each individual could fully develop in a safe environment, a home, "Hogar". We found a suitable place in Madrid and began what would prove to mark an important milestone in the history of the Animal Rights Movement in Spain. El Hogar became the first multispecies sanctuary in the country. Having rescued and cared for more than 300 animals we began to look for a larger facility. In 2013 we aquired a finca with 25 hectares in the province of Barcelona (near to the city of Vic). Here, our animals are able to live in peace and harmony, amongst many different species. In doing this, we have also secured the lives of generations of victims to come. In the summer of 2019, El Hogar Animal Sanctuary transitioned from association status, to becoming a fully fledged foundation, and we continue to grow. But only with the help of people like you. People who believe in empathy, ethology, and have a deep concern for the environment, and all her species.
Santuario Vegan was founded in 2011 with the aim of combating cruel livestock farming, improving the way farm animals are treated, and to foster a new awareness and understanding of these forgotten animals amongst society. Santuario Vegan has rescued and cared for hundreds of animals in its shelter located in the western mountains of Madrid. For us animals are friends, not food. The organisation educates millions of people about the plight of animals raised for food, and the negative impact of livestock farming on the environment. The Vegan Sanctuary Foundation is committed to fighting for a world where no animals are exploited and promoting a vegan lifestyle through animal rescue and advocacy. Our Vision: A world where humans adopt a vegan lifestyle and where rights, respect and care are extended to all animal species. Our Mission: To protect animals from cruelty, to inspire change in the way society views and treats them and to promote a vegan lifestyle. Commitment to Society: We engage people towards a vegan lifestyle. Non-violence: We only use and support non-violent and respectful methods as a way to achieve our goals. For freedom: We are against any arbitrary and unjust discrimination that leads to oppressive situations. Defence of animals: Animals exist for their own purposes, and were not made for us. Equality: All animals, human and non-human, must be treated with respect and dignity. Education & transformation: Positive Human-Animal connections and interactions are an effective method of education and transformation.
Santuario Compasión Animal is run by a dedicated team with years of experience in caring for animals in need. We imagine a world where humans and other animals, can coexist in harmony. Where the lives of animals are offered the same protections that we enjoy, because they too have feelings, they too have love in their hearts, and they too deserve to live their lives to the full, and without fear. We envision a world where empathy helps us to understand the suffering of others, regardless of their species. A world where compassion drives all of us to take action to mitigate suffering. We imagine a world where compassion extends beyond ourselves and reaches out to all our fellow species. A world where a new compassion will allow us to live in peace alongside other nimals, loving and respecting them along the way. We believe that this New Compassion, is the starting place ,and the seed for a better world. Fundación Nueva Compasión was conceived to help animals, to create spaces where we are able to care for them and love them as a part of our family. Spaces where they can be protected. We are a shelter for animals that have suffered abuse, mistreatment, or abandonment. For the animals to which society has turned its back. As a Foundation we are able to help animals more efficiently than non-foundations, as we are able to retain more resources. We are also able to offer donors tax deductions on their donations. Becoming a foundation was an important step for us. It has proved to be an endorsement of our credibility and profesionalism. As such, it ihas helped us to grow and to reach out to more and more animals in need each year. We would like this growth to continue, with new initiatives and new projects. We want to help change the way society relates to animals, and we believe there is nothing more powerful than a well thought out ideal, put into action. Santuario Compasión is more than a shelter for animals. It's a model of how we as humans are able to coexist with animals, a powerful ideal put into action. An ideal moved by deep compassion.
